I’m turning 16 soon and i’m looking for a summer job dealing with cars. Maybe working at a dealer or something here in califronia or at a shop that works on the newest cars. I love working with vehicles and I also heard that working for retail is a pain. Any suggestions for a summer job dealing with cars?

Why are more and more retail employers requiring a bachelor’s degree?

I’ve been finishing my college degree, and working in retail ENTRY LEVEL positions (cashiering, and working at a large coffee shop chain) and it seems that more and more of these places are saying that a bachelor’s degree is “preferred.” What gives? Why on earth would anyone go to school for 4 years to flip burgers or make lattes? A friend of mine was offered a job at a large mall in guest services, and they not only wanted a college degree, but a perfect credit score, and a bunch of other strange qualifications. All he was going to be doing was issuing locker keys, strollers, and gift certificates. Does this seem strangely bizarre to anyone else. It’s RETAIL! Some of the most stressful, ungratifying, low-skill employment available. Clue me in here…

How can you tell if the store you work at will close?

Management keep acting like even though we aren’t making the numbers, everything is fine. All of us who work here are sick and tired of not making the numbers and are worried that only a very small # of people come in to shop. I am thinking of finding a more stable job incase they do close but because management keeps saying stuff like “no need to worry” it makes me want to stay working there. Are there any signs to look out for? What month do they usually close retail stores???
